Brent R. Laycock, SCA CSPWC RCA
Previous artist | Next artist
Gup on a prairie farm near Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1947, Brent Laycock has maintained an intense love of the landscape. Although his formal studies in art at Brigham Young University in Utah (MFA 1974) took him through various explorations into the connections between musical and visual abstract art, he eventually returned to Alberta where his exploration and interpretation of the landscape resumed.

"The themes of wilderness, expansiveness, drama, and intimacy all take their turn in my interpretation of the landscape. When I contemplate the movement of the sky or the still of the prairie or the imposing rhythm of the mountains, there is always some emotional reaction that I try to communicate in my painting. Finding the spirit of the land involves something more than recording details."

Laycock paints in watercolour and acrylic and has exhibited in Canada, USA, Japan, Europe and Mexico and has taught workshops across Canada.
