Barbara Acheson Cooper first learned to draw and use watercolour in Cuba under the instruction of her mother. Upon moving to Canada, she studied at the Dundas Valley School of Art with Gordon Perrier and later completed BAs in Art and Art History ’75 and Honours Art (Painting) ’77 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Barbara works primary in mixed media on paper and canvas. She uses water-soluble pigments such as guache with overlays of pastel and collage and acrylic mixed with charcoal. Her paintings are mostly landscapes, usually abstracted from photographs and sketches done on trips.

Barbara has taught art and taken part in numerous solo, two-person and group shows. Her work is in private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, England, Germany and Jamaica. She is currently represented by the Gallery-on-the-Bay in Hamilton.
