Doug Andrews, SCA

A life-long farmer and gardener, the rural Ontario countryside and scenes from everyday farm life inspire my work. Whether they are paintings of indifferent cows chewing in the shade of an apple tree or of an enduring farmstead’s weathered buildings, my canvases are distinguished by their clarity of atmosphere, firmness of structure and richness of light and shadow. My style was once described as "remarkable in its realism without encumbering the viewer in useless detail." While I enjoy plein air sketching, the ambitious nature of my finished works dictates that I work slowly and patiently, completing them in my studio.

A professional artist, I exhibit and sell my work from my home east of Peterborough. My paintings are held in private collections in Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec and British Columbia as well as in the United States and New Zealand.
