Janet Hendershot, SCA

Born in Upstate New York in a farm community meant I spent much time out-of-doors in a lush green setting and enjoyed horseback riding as well as many pets. As a young person, I enjoyed school and college and traveled and worked in Rochester, New York; Washington,D.C.; and Berkeley, California.

I moved to Canada after visiting India. Once in Canada, I experienced a profound impulse to draw and paint. I entered York University where I obtained a B.F.A. in 1974. Since then, paintings have been exhibited across Canada as wel as internationally. I have taught at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Frederic Horseman Art Gallery and The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Residency have included San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Victoria, B.C. as well as my current residency of Toronto.

Paintings can be found in many public and private collections including ArtBank and the Government of Ontario.  Works have been included in many competitions including the NEXT! Exhibition (2015) sponsored by the Arts and Letters Club, Toronto, ON. The work awarded first prize and was selected from 700 images submitted to the jury.
