Margaret Walsh Best, SCA

Margaret Walsh Best is a Canadian artist and art educator from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador whose paintings, mainly in watercolour, are inspired by the natural world and its hidden narratives.

She has participated in nearly 200 exhibitions, group and solo, nationally & internationally. Her solo exhibitions and curatorial work are on thematic works based on issues around biodiversity, folklore and history, many centered on the journey of plants along the trails of migration.

As an art educator, Margaret has created and executed dozens of school-related multimedia projects and is an advocate for the incorporation of art into educational curricula. She offers weekly adult classes and workshops on specific themes throughout the year and has combined workshops and artist talks into the programs related to all of her solo exhibitions.

Margaret’s involvement in art has extended into the community where she has volunteered for many years on the boards of Visual Arts Newfoundland and Labrador (VANL-CARFAC), the Newfoundland and Labrador Art Council and the Art Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, which awarded her an Honorary Lifetime Membership for her contribution to the arts of the membership and in her province.
