Why become involved?

Volunteering with the SCA provides the opportunity to network with fellow dedicated SCA member artists with similar background and interests. Join a great team!!

How can you be involved?

  • Volunteering on SCA committees and assisting with local SCA events and exhibitions, providing workshops and demos
  • Submitting articles to the SCA newsletterTwitter account and FaceBook pages
  • Attending invited workshops and annual social activities (Winter Holiday party, Annual General Meeting)
  • Serving on the SCA Executive. Call for nominations for SCA Executive Board positions are being accepted until June 2, 2018. Please complete the Nomination_Form_for_SCA_Executive_Positions_2018-2020 and submit a one-page summary of intent and brief biography (maximum of 400 words) with the name of the Executive Position for which you are running.

Vacant 2018-2020 SCA Executive Committee Positions (Including Directorships)

Vice-President (Director)
The duties and responsibilities of the Vice-President shall be to:

  1. Assume all the powers and perform all the duties of the President in the absence of the President.
  2. In case of the President’s resignation from the Board or the Corporation, the Vice-President automatically becomes the President and serves out the unexpired term of the office vacated by the preceding President.  (Job description for SCA President available upon request.)

Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair (Director)
The duties and responsibilities of the Treasure and Finance Committee shall be to:

  1. Prepare the SCA annual budget
  2. Maintain accurate bank records of all SCA accounts.
  3. Supervise deposit and withdrawal from all SCA accounts.
  4. Prepare a quarterly review of SCA accounts, including statements of income and expense, assets and liabilities.
  5. Secure and distribute an annual audited statement.
  6. Supervise issue of annual dues reminders and receipts.
  7. Manage charitable donations.
  8. Supervise bookkeeping arrangements.
  9. Coordinate the appointment and removal of signing officers.
  10. Manage SCA insurance and GST obligations.
  11. Explore fund raising activities.

Exhibitions Committee Chair (Director) 
The duties and responsibilities of the Exhibitions Chair and Committee shall be to:

  1. Annually prepare, for review by the Board, a proposed schedule of exhibitions for at least two years in advance so as to create a rolling schedule for SCA exhibitions. The proposed schedule will include:
    • location (venue and province);
    • nature/theme of the show;
    • open juried, SCA elected members or SCA elected & associate members SCA exhibitions will be directed toward the achievement of SCA objectives, particularly those which address “artistic excellence” and recognition through “a program of awards
  2. For each exhibition:
    • draw up contracts between SCA and the gallery involved 
    • develop and distribute “Call for Entry” forms 
    • develop price lists, catalogues, signage and French translation, where applicable 
    • arrange for date, place and time for the jurying 
    • arrange for exhibition installation, security, “sitters', dismantling and pick up at show’s end 
    • arrange for an appropriate level of insurance coverage 
    • where possible, provide assistance to receive and return work sent from out of town 
    • arrange for designing, printing and distribution of invitations to SCA exhibitions 
    • arrange for photographs of the exhibition opening to be taken by an SCA volunteer 
    • see that the website manager, and the newsletter editor are provided with selected images of the photographs for publication on the website and the newsletter
    • provide the Publicity Committee chair with information for press releases.

Publicity Chair (possibility of Directorship)
The duties and responsibilities of the Publicity Chair and Committee shall be to:

  1. Be responsible for promoting SCA exhibitions, activities and mission of the SCA to the public via all available media. 
  2. Provide all publicity and advertising required by the organization including: 
    • Advertising
      • To artists - calls for entry, calls for membership,  AGM, Holiday Party; 
      • To the public: exhibitions;
    • Publicity
      • press releases for calls and exhibitions, other important SCA news as deemed appropriate by the Board; maintain good contacts with art community; 
    • Production of Materials:
      • advertisements; posters for print, e-mail, web, and social media uses; invitations for SCA events; brochures; banner ads; text ads; press releases; feature articles; and supports the Communications Director, and Social Media, Newsletter, and Website Committees.
  3. Keep an updated resource list of all publicity sources, including local and national newspapers, on-line Publications, art guides, radio and television. 
  4. Maintain an archive of all publicity releases relevant to the organization. 
  5. Help the Exhibitions Chair at each venue as required: * arrange for photographs of the exhibition opening to be taken by an SCA volunteer * see that the website manager, and the newsletter editor are provided with selected images of the photographs for publication on the website and the newsletter.

    Candidates with previous publicity-related experience and those who have helped as part of a volunteer committee(s) are preferred.

Social Media Committee Chair (possibility of Directorship)
The duties and responsibilities of the Social Media Committee shall be to:

  1. Plan, manage and coordinating all social media programs and initiatives, monitor and filter visitor responses to SCA posts, act as initial point of contact for inbound requests and disseminate relevant information to the appropriate SCA contact, report at board meetings, assist Webmaster as required.
  2. Develop, propose, execute, manage and periodically evaluate a clearly defined social media strategy which promotes the exchange of user-generated content while upholding the initiatives and integrity of the SCA. This is a volunteer position and not for self-promotion.

Webmaster and Website Committee Chair (possibility of Directorship)
The duties and responsibilities of the Webmaster and Website Committee shall be to:

  1. Update SCA member’s contact information as per changes to membership registration database.To collect meaningful web statistics and share these with the Communications committee on a regular basis.
  2. Issue password and login information for personal page access as well as on-line gallery.
  3. Respond to members’ queries regarding uploading their images and biography text.
  4. Ensure that all information on the SCA website is current and accurate.  Upload attachments and other files, maintain dates and move past event documents to archive sections or removed when appropriate e.g., calls for artist, newsletters, announcement of upcoming exhibitions, Elected membership information document, and application form for elected membership.
  5. Investigate and propose technologies which will help the Society with improved management of business and/or increasing efficiency (as required), in cooperation with the Finance and Communications Committees.
