2018 International Open Juried SCA Online Exhibition - March 15 to June 15, 2018

Important:

All members and non-members submitting work for SCA exhibitions, please note that:

  • Entries must not be copies or derivatives based in any way on other copyrighted or published paintings, photographs or other artistic work.
  • Any infraction of this rule will result in serious consequences. For members it will result in but will not be limited to expulsion from the SCA. Non-members will be barred from all SCA exhibitions, and entry fees will be forfeited.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  1. The Exhibition is open to all artists anywhere, whether or not SCA members, creating original artwork in 2 and 3-dimensional media. Art must be entirely the work of the entrant, executed without the supervision of an instructor, and within 3 years of the entry deadline. Work must not have been previously exhibited in an SCA exhibition.
  2. This is an online exhibition which means no shipping to a physical location is required for display. All selected works will be exhibited on the SCA online gallery for 3 months at: http://shop.societyofcanadianartists.com/.
  3. There is no size limit for submittedartwork.
  4. The artist by submission grants the SCA the right to post the selected image(s) in the online exhibition and use the digital image(s) for publicity or educational purposes.
  5. Accepted artwork may be for sale or NFS ($0). In the event of a sale, the SCA charges a 20% commission which is taken off the artist’s stated retail price. Shipping to customer is the artist’s responsibility. The artist is notified of the sale and the purchaser’s contact information will be released as soon as payment has been processed.

  • Best of Show: $2,000
  • 2nd Prize:   $ 1,000
  • 3rd Place:   $ 750
  • 2 Honourable Mentions: @ $250

To Enter:

Artists are invited to submit up to 3 pieces of original artwork produced within the last 3 years and never shown in an SCA exhibition, all for one submission fee of $40.00. Please submit your digital images (as per specifications see below - .jpg 500K - 2MB) on our website and proceed to pay the fee by PayPal via the link provided. Make sure your payment has your name listed so we know who the fee is for. If you need to pay by cheque, there is a link for that as well. 

IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

  • Digital files must be in .jpg format, PC/Mac compatible. When opened, only the image of the artwork should show (cropped with no frame, no mat board or extraneous background showing).
  • Files size to be no less than 500K and no more than 2 MB at High quality setting for JPG compression.
  • Exceeding the file size may cause the process to time-out.
  • Please name your image files in the following format:

2018 Elected Exhibition - Gainsborough Galleries, Calgary, AB - June 16-30

Important: All elected members submitting work for jurying for SCA exhibitions, please note that:

  • Entries must not be copies, derivatives, or based in any way on other copyrighted or published paintings, photographs or other artistic work.
  • Any infraction of this rule will result in serious consequences, it will result in but will not be limited to expulsion from the SCA. Entry fees will be forfeited.

Entry Fee  $44.00 (non Refundable) by PayPal or make cheque payable to “The Society of Canadian Artists”.

Insurance:

Artists are encouraged to have their own insurance as the host venue Gainsborough Galleries or the SCA are not responsible for loss or damage of artwork for the duration of the exhibit.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  1. The Exhibition is only open to Elected Members of the SCA creating original artwork in all traditional media including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and photography, They must be entirely the work of the entrant, executed without the supervision of an instructor, and within 3 years of the entry deadline. Work must not have been previously exhibited in an SCA exhibition.
  2. All works must be suitably framed or prepared with instructions for the installation of three-dimensional work. Two-dimensional work must be wired and ready for hanging. Stretchers used for gallery canvases must be a minimum of 1.5 inches in depth with visible edges being finished.
  3. Artwork must not exceed 1200 sq inches (unframed, possibly 30” x 40”, vertical or horizontal). Shipped artwork must arrive at the designated location in Calgary via UPS, FedEx or Canada Post and suitably packaged for both shipment to and from Calgary.
  4. The artist by submission grants Gainsborough Galleries and the SCA the right to photograph accepted work for publicity, educational, references and website purposes.
  5. All artwork must be for sale, priced in Canadian funds with the intent to sell. Gainsborough Galleries charges a 50% commission on all sales.  Prices must include this and not be artificially inflated. The SCA will not take any commission for this exhibition.

Awards:

  • Antoinette Stevens Award for best painting in Show, $1,000 plus Bronze Medallion
  • Antoinette Stevens Award for Best Acrylic $500
  • 2 SCA Awards of Excellence $1,000 and $500
  • 2 additional Awards of Merit of $250 each

Artists are permitted to submit up to 2 pieces of original artwork for one $44.00 submission fee. Please submit your digital images on our website and then proceed to pay the fee by PayPal via the link provided. Make sure your payment has your name listed so we know who the fee is for. If you need to pay by cheque, there is a link for that as well.

IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

Before proceeding to upload your images on the online submission form, save your images as a JPG (PC or MAC compatible) using the following convention:

  • Your name1_image title_year created.jpg, (for example: smithjohn1_winterblues_2017.jpg), Your name2_image title_year created.jpg
  • Only the image of your artwork should show (no frames or extraneous backgrounds).
  • File should be sized at 72 dpi, min. 1000 pix wide or tall, file minimum 500KB, not to exceed 2 MB.
